We are proud to share that our team member, Dawid Rutkowski from PANCAIM partner Karolinska Institute, has been honored with the prestigious Swedish Society of Radiology student award for his outstanding scientific work! Dawid’s research titled “A deep learning-based method to detect and assess tumor characteristics in patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma,” is a remarkable contribution within the PANCAIM project.
During his PhD, Dawid is exploring the possibilities of AI in medical imaging analysis, particularly in the detection and segmentation of pancreatic cancer from intravenous contrast venous phase CT images. His work, based on a dataset of 600 images from three publicly available datasets, showcased impressive results: The developed algorithm achieved a sensitivity of 95% and specificity of 90% for pancreatic cancer detection. These results highlights the promise of hybrid-based AI models in the fight against pancreatic cancer.
Working closely with PANCAIM’s Principal Investigator and PhD supervisor, Matthias Löhr, Dawid’s next goal is to advance the deep learning model to detect and segment both pancreatic cancer and normal pancreatic tissue. Congratulations to Dawid on this well-deserved recognition!
