We’re proud that our project was recently featured by the European Commission in an article on CORDIS, where breakthrough EU research results are highlighted! PANCAIM aims to revolutionise the care of patients suffering from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma by developing sophisticated, multimodal artificial intelligence to help doctors detect this aggressive cancer earlier and offering personalised treatment recommendations for patients.
The consortium has been working hard over the last (almost) 3 years to gather high-quality, real world data from all three pillars of future personalised medicine – radiological and pathological images combined with genomic and clinical information – in a trusted, collaborative cloud repository. This multicenter data was then used to developed the first unimodal AI algorithms, including one that is capable of detecting small cancers on CT imaging that even experienced radiologists might easily overlook. In early 2023, this algorithm has been exclusively implemented via teamplay digital health platform owned by consortium partner Siemens Healthineers. More on this in the second PANCAIM press release here!
The project now focuses on optimising and integrating developed unimodal AI algorithms to promote the development of multimodal AI models that combine multiple types of data to make for even more accurate AI-powered decision-making support for the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic cancer. This paves the way towards widespread #validation of the PANCAIM AI-algorithms and their application in clinical routine settings.
